Alongside the quilt I made for Anna for her birthday, I wanted Erin to make something for her sister. Armed with my inspiration from this book, I caught Erin between eating, and…. probably eating if I’m honest - and quickly shoved some fabric and a biro under her nose with the instructions ‘draw a picture of you and Anna. Please’. She didn’t mind and drew a very sweet picture, which as you can see depicts Anna as some kind of balloon. I loved it!
I hadn’t forgotten that all attempts at embroidery so far had for me been rather sad and sorry and a bit wonky. But I figured my wonky stitching could work in this particular project - so I started stitching without the pressure I usually feel when about to embark on this kind of thing… So, I stitched over the lines to recreate her picture in embroidery form, and added some fabric to add some extra colour and interest. I like it (it is my daughter’s work, after all!), but I’m not keen on the flowers I added - they’re a bit much and I might just take them out.
I had meant to inset this into a cushion, but I found that Erin had drawn too close to the edge of the fabric (note to you - if you decide to give this a go - give a bigger bit of fabric than you’re going to use). So, here’s the picture in a hoop - which is where it’s going to stay. I still haven’t decided whether it’s going to live above our bed (where it is now), or go into the girls’ room where I think it really belongs.
Jo, this is the sweetest thing ever! I love it
It’s so lovely to see it finished. (keep it for yourself!)

Love it!
I would leave the flowers in - they add vibrancy. It is a beuatiful idea that I may just try out with my own kids
