Essential summer tunic

About this item

Made by Kerry: The pattern for this tunic is from the Japanese clothing pattern magazine Pochee, Vol 7 Spring 2009. Pochee is a beautiful publication and includes women and young children's clothing as well as bags and other accessories in each issue.

The pattern is relatively easy to sew, the hardest part is tracing it and I have a post on my blog with the tools that I find helpful for this and another describing how to work out which pattern pieces to trace.

The tunic came in one size and is a loose unstructured fit. You could easily adjust the length and the sleeves but the chest size would be harder to change. I am a size 10 to give you an idea of fit.

The fabric is Anna Maria Horner's Little Folks voile in Diamond Mine pattern, Sky colour (from Saints and Pinners of course!). This is a lovely light cotton, similar to Liberty lawn fabric with a silky soft texture and is easy to cut and sew.

I used a 70 size needle and finished the seams edges by sewing them together with a 3 step zigzag. This makes the seams lies flatter than a normal zigzag would on this lighter weight fabric. It feels lovely on and is great to wear on the beach!
