These receiving blankets are featured in the Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts by Martha Stewart.
We made ours from a layer of Anna Maria Horner voile and a layer of Cloud 9 organic flannel for warmth. They’re light, so ideal for the summer weather, and also for packing as they take up so little space. The voile works particularly well for those babies who like to rub the fabric between their fingers as it’s so soft. The blankets shown here are approximately 70cm x 113cm.
To make: Using 3/4 of a metre of each fabric (three units of each fabric), cut both layers to the same size, and sew them right sides together using a 1cm seam. Then turn the whole thing right side out, press, and overstitch 5/8 of an inch all of the way around.
